🔴Occupation Turns Arrests into Opportunity for Extrajudicial Executions

Ramallah, occupied Palestine- Israeli occupation forces executed two young Palestinian men between Wednesday night and Thursday morning while carrying out overnight arrests in the governorates of Jenin and Salfit in the northern West Bank, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said in a statement on Thursday. 

The two men were Mohammad Nathem Zayed (29) from Jenin and Mustafa Taha Mustafa Khatib (32) from Salfit.

The PPS explained that, according to available information, Mohammad Zayed was targeted after an Israeli occupation military force surrounded a house in the town of Al-Yamoun, in Jenin, and opened direct fire on him before later withholding his body. 

The IOF also killed Mustafa Al-Khatib during a raid on his home in Salfit, where they shot him dead and left his body inside the house after carrying out extensive destruction there.

The PPS emphasized that these two incidents are an extension of a systematic policy of field executions carried out by Israeli occupation forces. This use of this policy has increased at an unprecedented rate, particularly since the genocide in Gaza, with a rise in the deliberate killing of Palestinians during arrest and raid operations, or after they had been detained.

Numerous documented cases and pieces of evidence over the past period indicate that the IOF have carried out field executions of detainees after their arrest. This was reflected in the presence of restraint marks on the limbs of several deceased individuals, as well as information that emerged when bodies released as part of prisoner exchange deals were received.

The policy of field executions is no longer limited to individual or exceptional actions, but has become a systematic policy and a central tool within the colonial system of violence practiced by the occupying state against Palestinians. These actions are enabled by political, legal, and military cover and continue amid ongoing international impunity.

Continued Israeli occupation efforts to pass discriminatory and racist legislation—most notably a law providing for the execution of Palestinian political prisoners—reflect an official move toward legalizing killing and transforming execution into an openly declared policy supported by legislation. This is consistent with a historical framework of policies targeting Palestinians through arrest, killing, detention, and mistreatment.

The PPS renews its demands to the international human rights system and the United Nations to assume their legal and moral responsibilities regarding escalating crimes committed by the occupation against the Palestinian people. It urges action to hold Israeli occupation leaders accountable for field executions and unlawful killings, and to put an end to the ongoing state of impunity that has encouraged further violations, especially since the crime of genocide in Gaza, which has exposed the systematic failure of the international system.
