🚨Tortured Palestinian Political Prisoner Martyred After Release From Israeli Occupation Prisons

Israeli occupation authorities bear full responsibility for the martyrdom of the freed prisoner Ahmad Samir Odeh. His martyrdom is a direct result of arrest, torture, abuse, and systematic denial of medical care behind bars.

Ramallah, occupied Palestine – A 23-year-old young Palestinian man, Ahmad Samir Odeh, from the town of Huwwara in the northern occupied West Bank, was martyred early on Tuesday morning following his release from Israeli occupation prisons several months ago, during which he was severely tortured and abused, Palestinian prisoners' institutions said in a statement.

Odeh had been subjected to repeated arrests and imprisonment, the most recent of which was in February 2026. That arrest was preceded by a year and a half behind bars without trial or charge, in ‘administrative detention’. Odeh was brutally physically assaulted by occupation forces, including prison forces, during both ordeals. He, like thousands of other Palestinian political prisoners, was released carrying the scars of torture, physical and psychological abuse, and denial of medical care, all of which continue to haunt them even after liberation.

The institutions pointed out that the martyrdom of Ahmad Odeh comes in the context of many cases in which liberated prisoners are martyred shortly after their release -- some only days later -- affected by the torture, abuse, and systematic medical crimes they were subjected to inside the prisons, including deliberate deprivation of necessary treatment and healthcare, which makes the effects of prison extend beyond the end of the detention period.

These impacts extend far beyond the prison walls, while the continued absence of meaningful international accountability has allowed the crimes committed against Palestinian political prisoners and detainees to persist with impunity.

Palestinian prisoner institutions renew their call to the international community, United Nations bodies, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and all international human rights organizations to assume their legal and moral responsibilities, and to act urgently to stop the escalating crimes against Palestinian prisoners, open independent international investigations into crimes of torture and medical negligence, and hold occupation leaders accountable for the grave violations that amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, in light of the continued policy of impunity that has encouraged the occupation to continue targeting prisoners and detainees without deterrence.
