🔴 Palestinian Prisoner’s Society: Occupation Forces Release Palestinian-American journalist Naqaa Hamed from Ramallah

Ramallah, occupied Palestine – The Israeli occupation forces released Palestinian-American female freelance journalist Naqaa Hamed (37) from the town of Beitin/Ramallah on Monday afternoon, on bail of 8,000 shekels, according to her lawyer, Khaled Mahajneh.

Occupation forces arrested her on September 15, at a flying military checkpoint in the town of Tuqu’/Bethlehem. She is married and a mother of three children.

Following Hamed’s release, the number of journalists detained in occupation prisons stands at 36, including four women journalists: Bushra al-Tawil, Farah Abu Ayyash, Islam Amarnah, and Natalie Abu Diya.

Approximately 90 Palestinian women are currently detained in occupation prisons, amid continuing arrests and targeting of Palestinian women, accompanied by harsh detention conditions that include isolation, mistreatment, denial of family visits, and deprivation of basic rights.

The Israeli occupation continues to target Palestinian male and female journalists through arrest, persecution, interrogation, administrative detention, and isolation, as well as by restricting their journalistic work and targeting them while they are carrying out their duties.

Since the beginning of the genocide, arrests have affected a large number of journalists whom the occupation continues to detain. Some are being held under administrative detention without trial or clear charges, based on what is referred to as a “secret file,” reflecting the continued use of this form of detention against journalists.

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society emphasizes that the targeting of male and female journalists comes within the context of ongoing policies aimed at restricting their ability to carry out their work, report facts, and document violations. It calls on international human rights organizations to fulfill their responsibilities toward journalists, ensure their protection, enable them to carry out their journalistic work, and end the policies of arrest, persecution, and isolation targeting them.
